Amparo is a support service for anyone affected by suicide. The service provides 1:1, to family or colleague group sessions in-person or over the phone.

How the service works

Amparo is a free, confidential service that can provide both short-term and long-term support, depending on the needs of the individual.

Support can be provided in different ways:

  • 1:1 support in person
  • Family groups
  • Groups of work colleagues
  • Telephone
  • Video call
  • Walk and talk
  • In community venues

Individuals can refer at any stage in their bereavement or other agencies can make a referral on their behalf (The Portsmouth Mental Health Hub, their GP, the coroner, a police officer, or a funeral director are examples).

How can Amparo help?

The team is made up of experienced Suicide Liaison Workers with excellent listening and problem-solving skills. You can speak to the team for as long as you need, and call as many times as you want.

All workers are based locally, meaning they know the support agencies that are available to help further.
