Are you on your way to university ?

Going to university to study whether as a fresher (first year) or as a returning student can trigger a range of different emotions.

University is often the time many young people find themselves away from home for the first prolonged amount of time, that could be fairly local or it could be the other side of the country or even the world.

Every student is confronted with handling many study and life issues. Factors such as handling set amounts of money; settling into an unfamiliar city; perhaps learning a new language; dealing with homesickness; meeting new people and making friends; and juggling course deadlines are all at play.

These factors can impact a person’s mental health in terms of self confidence; self esteem; and feelings of stress and anxiety.

Talking to friends, family members and university staff in person or online can help address these feelings.

The Portsmouth Mental Health Hub has a team of compassionate professionals ready to talk to you and support you in accessing the most appropriate mental health help in a clear and easy way.

Anyone aged 16 and over can call the Portsmouth Mental Health Hub for self-care advice and connection to mental health and community support services. Call 0300 123 6621 Monday to Friday (8am-6pm) or chat online at www.mentalhealthinportsmouth.co.uk/contact
