How the service works

Positive Minds is a place for peer support and wellbeing advice from others with lived experience. The peer practitioners have lived through difficulties themselves and can relate to how you are feeling. They will work with you to identify goals and walk alongside you in your recovery journey.

Support is offered 1:1 or in a group setting.

All in-person sessions take place at Solent Mind’s Wellbeing Centre in Arundel Street. Support can also take place over the phone or via Zoom.

The team can help with a variety of issues that could be contributing to feelings of worry or hopelessness. These include:

  • Housing
  • Money
  • Relationships
  • Work
  • Bereavement
  • Leaving the armed forces
  • Living away from home

The team operates a ‘tell us once’ system: a chat with them can get you connected to your community and its services, without having to explain yourself again and again. They hope to put you in touch with the right support at the right time.

How can Positive Minds help?

Anyone aged 18+ can access the Positive Minds service via the online form, which asks basic information about the individual, their current situation, and feelings. This way, the team can allocate the right peer for support whether that be 1:1 or group sessions.

The various ways the team can support includes:

  • Drop-in sessions (see timetable)
  • Face to face sessions
  • 1:1 Support
  • Advice and guidance
  • Workshops around managing wellbeing
  • Support Groups
  • Social inclusion (supporting an individual to access social networks e.g. using public transport)
  • Graded Exposure (fear exposure)

All sessions provide a safe space for individuals to relax, enjoy a hot drink and identify their goals with a peer practitioner if they want to. The peer practitioners have lived through difficulties themselves and can relate to how the individual is feeling and advise where necessary.
